The Northstar School Mission To provide a unique educational experience focused on equipping students with a superior skill set and collection of real-world experiences, resulting in young adults capable of successfully leading in a global marketplace where the velocity of change is ever increasing. The core curriculum will be college preparatory with a focus on science, engineering, and fine arts blended with local and international life application opportunities, and commitment to community and environmental responsibilities. The Northstar Concept The non-profit Northstar school, established in 2005 in Arlington, Texas, has been founded to create an optimized learning environment, based on best-practice examples drawn from research and educational facilities developed around the world, in order to create a place where children entering middle school and progressing to high school can maximize their individual talents, exposure to knowledge, and opportunities to gain real-world experience. The Northstar approach blends traditional modes of instruction - classroom lectures - with specific study programs optimized by and carried out by individual students, with assistance assistance and support by their teachers. The student-teacher ratio is restricted to no more than 10:1 to ensure optimum assistance and support. Teachers and faculty only teach subjects in their particular expertise mirroring the college-type experience and maintaining the highest quality instruction delivery. Joint programs with international sister schools have been established to strengthen cultural diversity as well as emphasize relevance of many of the subjects being learned. Provisions for enrichment through educational outreach programs are provided to each student. Additionally, a novel partnership has been established with the YMCA to provide a customized physical education experience for all of the students. The Northstar concept is continually
evaluated by the faculty, parents, and an independent Board of
Directors to ensure that the educational and life objectives are being
obtained. An active and committed scholarship program is a cornerstone
of the Northstar concept to ensure the very best students from diverse
backgrounds may be able to attend. The best validation is through
our wonderful students, who have already won significant distinctions,
such as regional winners for the past two years in the Science Olympiad
competition, top ten finishes in the Texas Regional Math Contest, Duke
University Talent Identification Program Texas state award recipients,
Red Steagall Southwest Fiddle Competition, numerous awards in the
regional 4-H events including Grand Champion Reserve, and regional
finalists in the YMCA volleyball competition. |
